Do you feel like you’ve gotten stuck on your healing or wellness journey?
Examples of this include:
- unexplained or persistent symptoms that haven’t resolved even though you’re doing all the right things
- ongoing struggles with difficult memories that affect how you function in your life
- unwanted behaviors that recur despite repeated attempts to change.
Changing a pattern in your body or mind requires changing connections in the pathways in your brain.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (also known as EFT tapping) is an effective way of doing just that.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) is an evidence-based, mind-body method that reduces the emotional intensity on sensations, memories, or thoughts that you find distressing.
EFT tapping involves focusing on pieces of an issue while stimulating specific points on the face and body by lightly tapping on them.
This combination helps regulate the nervous system so the information you’re focused on can be processed differently in your brain.
As a result, your brain’s conditioned response to the issue – and the way you experience that issue – can change in a positive and lasting way.
Working with a certified Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) practitioner can help you
- Identify and address underlying factors contributing to pain, other physical symptoms, or insomnia
- Reduce unwanted emotional intensity when thinking about:
- negative encounters with specific people
- upsetting incidents or experiences
- changes in your appearance or physical/cognitive abilities
- choices you made or decisions you need to make
- difficult conversations
- Release feelings of shock (e.g., about a diagnosis, loss, or incident)
- Decrease anxiety about an upcoming event
- Manage distracting mind chatter and improve your focus
- Change unhealthy or unwanted habits
- Reframe concerns about the future so you can take consistent steps to move forward in your life.
Christine McDevitt, your EFT tapping practitioner at Farfalla Integrative Health, is accredited and certified in Clinical EFT through EFT International. She has advanced training using EFT with various types of trauma including:
- trauma related to medical or dental tests/procedures
- serious or chronic illness
- accidents
- unexpected loss
- incidents witnessed by first responders
Research shows that Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) can have both emotional and physiological benefits.
Important note: An internet search will turn up many variations of “tapping”, including tap-along scripted videos, apps, and meditations. However, most of these variations are not consistent with the method of clinical EFT. Clinical EFT is the form of tapping that has been validated by research studies.
There are over 100 clinical studies that support clinical EFT’s effectiveness with a variety of issues. Outcomes of these studies include:
- Reduced pain levels
- Reduced feelings of anxiety and depression
- Reduced symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Lower levels of cortisol (a primary stress hormone)
- Increased levels of salivary immunoglobulin A (a biomarker of immune function)
- Improved cognitive function in people with cancer-related brain fog
- Decreased food cravings
- Increased feelings of happiness and satisfaction
EFT is not psychotherapy, counseling, or medical care and is not a replacement for those services. EFT tapping is, however, an excellent addition to any care you may be receiving, especially if conventional methods alone aren’t working as well as you’d hoped.
What to expect during a typical EFT tapping session
A session with a certified Clinical EFT practitioner is interactive. You’ll choose an issue you’d like to work on. We’ll identify a good starting point for the session related to that issue. Then, we’ll go through a process where you will lightly tap on specific points on your face and body with your fingertips while holding in mind a specific thought, body sensation, or feeling. The practitioner will guide you through and tap along with you.
Typically, you’ll be repeating various phrases while you tap (although this isn’t always the case). The phrases will be tailored to the specific issue at hand and will use your own words. There are no scripts used. We continually change the phrases throughout the session based on what occurs as the session progresses. We always make sure to keep the emotional intensity at a manageable level – no matter what might show up for you – so you don’t feel overwhelmed. At the end of each session, we’ll discuss ways for you to continue work on the issue on your own as appropriate.
